From Here to There

Meet Courtney.

She's my good friend who also happened to go to high school with Troy in New Orleans back when he was a teenager. I can't even imagine! He tells me he was, ummm...not as humble back then. So sorry Court! :)

Courtney and I both met at the church that was on LSU campus before either of us was a Mrs. and while our husbands-to-be were still hustling through college.

Now we're both married with TWO kids each-- time has just flown by! She and her honey Jared moved to San Antonio a few years ago. We drove up from New Orleans and visited them while we still each only had one kid in tow (though she was pregnant with Jack at the time!)

Then we moved to Texas about a year and a half ago as well. Too bad it wasn't San Antonio because we'd have insta-friends if we lived there! We've become really close through blogs and Facebook though so it's nice to know she's not that far away if I want to get away on a road trip and see her.

About a month ago, I got something in the mail talking about running a marathon and it started the wheels in motion thinking about running seriously again. I had been running a mile or two around the neighborhood but not much more than that.

I knew there was no way I could do a marathon right now-- training for one is so labor intensive and takes a good deal of time; something I don't have a lot of with two kids under the age of 4.

I looked on the brochure and saw that they had a full AND a half marathon in San Antonio in November. I shot Courtney an email with this "crazy" idea of running a half marathon and what did she think? Did she want to tag along and run with me in November?

I got an ecstatic email back that YES! She would do it too!

So we've been training together, yet separate-- she in San Antonio, me in Dallas and reporting to each other about our running ups and downs as we push ourselves to our goal.

With that said, today I ran a 10K, something I haven't done in two years! I got up early before anyone in the house was really fully awake and hit the pavement hard. An hour later, I came back and had met my goal! From here on out, I will have run more than I have ever run before (8 miles+).

Who knows, maybe one day I will run a full marathon-- but for now, it's looking like a half is do-able!

Thanks Courtney for helping me push myself a little further each time. It's always better to have a pal to commiserate and triumph all of your highs and lows with! I'll see you at the start line in November!

I didn't realize that Courtney and Troy went to school together. That's pretty cool!

I am going to join in on the lovefest, Courtney. Ever since Jenny's bridal shower I have admired you and your way with words. You have an amazing gift if tongue that can engage any reader or listener.

You guys are both awesome for challenging yourselves with the half marathon. I just got a treadmill tonight so maybe I can join ya'll on the next race!

That AWESOME! Running can be such a soothing way to ease the mind. You are going to do great and will find out just how addicting running half marathons can be :) Your shirt reminds me of the numerous booths that are at the expos before the races....you will have to check out this website http://www.rungirlrun.ca/ they have some of my favorite girlie running gear! Keep us posted on the rest of your training!
