Ears, Tubes, and Smiles

Our little man has suffered from ear infections since he was itty bitty, never seeming to have a spare moment of peace during the winter months before the next infection began when the other had left off. After dealing with speech delays and round after round of antibiotics, we finally got in to see an ENT who advised that Peyton have his adnoids out and tubes put in. He had the surgery done in February and did very well with recovery.

We had been warned by friends who have children that had undergone the procedure that some of their little ones had woken up disoriented and quite angry. Thankfully, Peyton was a trooper and was only a little out of it for about 5 minutes until they brought him a popsicle. Since he's recovered, he hears us whisper now, (which he was previously unable to do) and he seems to be learning words and speaking in complete sentences a little more every day. Also, noises that didn't startle him before seem really loud to him-- especially the toilet flushing!

The week of Peyton's surgery, we were surprised to find a box at the front door addressed for Peyton. When we opened it, it was full of get well cookies that were shaped like happy smiley faces. Peyton was ecstatic and enjoyed his supply of edible happiness from my Uncle Bruce and Aunt Chris. Thank you so much guys-- you made Peyton's week!

He was such a great big brother that he even shared his cookies with his baby sister!
