Date Night

On Friday night, we decided to go out on a date {just the two of us} because it had been a while and we thought we should take advantage of the opportunity we had to go and have an evening out together by ourselves. We enlisted the help of Grandma and got dressed up and were off. Peyton was all smiles when we left because he got to swing on the porch with his new buddy. And we were all smiles because we were FREE! :-)
We chose one of our favorite locations, Bacco, to have dinner. Initially, we tried to get reservations at Muriel's since we had never been and wanted to try something new, but they were booked for dinner until 8:45! So we compromised and had dinner at Bacco and dessert at Muriel's.
It didn't look like Bacco had the same problem that Muriel's did that evening! There were plenty of tables available. It is cozy in Bacco and has a formal air but not so fancy as to be stuffy. As you can see there are people dressed up as well as people wearing casual. They all mesh well here.
Starters: SHRIMP BRUSCHETTA and CRAWFISH TOMATO BISQUE.

The bruschetta was my favorite.
Troy's main dish: GRILLED VEAL CHOP
[with Cannellini bean purée, asparagus sauté, roasted tomato-veal reduction].

Delicious.
My main dish {a little blurry and out of focus}: BACCO SHRIMP
[Jumbo Louisiana Gulf shrimp, garlic, rosemary, Abita Amber beer, Creole seasonings].

Yummy, but not as tasty as Troy's!

*As a side note, the very first time I ordered this, I received quite the shock. They brought the plate out with shrimp tenticles and eyeballs still intact. I had to tell Troy to deshell them for me because it was seriously turning my stomach. The second time, I got wise and told them to 'behead' them before they brought the plate out!
Here we are at the end of our meal before we headed over to Muriel's. We forgot to take pictures of our dessert there-- I think when they set the plates down before us, we started inhaling them and only remembered at the end that we forgot to document it!

To end the evening, Troy ordered the Pain Perdu Bread pudding with candied pecans and Rum sauce and I had the Dark Chocolate Brownie with peanut butter gelato, caramel and chocolate sauces.

It was divine.

We would like to go back and try dinner sometime too! I told Troy we also need to come during the day when it is quiet so we can see what the rooms look like since it is a little piece of history. Plus you never know-- we might see their ghost! ;-)

The first time I saw a boiled shrimp, complete with eyes that creepily stare at you, I yelled and threw it across the restaurant. My family still laughs about that to this day (and it was over 15 years ago!) And David is so sweet and peels all seafood for me at crawfish boils so I don't have to look at the heads - he's so sweet!
