An Eggstraordinary Egg Hunt

The weather here is a fickle thing. Friday evening was clear and bright; yet Saturday when we woke up, it was overcast, cold and windy. We quickly got some breakfast into our systems and headed out the door into the blustery spring morning for a huge Easter Egg Hunt that was taking place in our future home of Rowlett.


There were over 20,000 plastic candy filled eggs to be found at this hunt; not so much hidden as they were tossed every which way in front of the Rowlett Library and City Hall. We had half an hour to wait before it was time to scramble for those eggs, but Peyton wasted no time in trying to figure out just what in the world those plastic eggs were and what was in them.

He was also ecstatic to see giant stuffed 'friends' {as we call stuffed animals in our house} roaming about the grounds ready to give out hugs and to pose for pictures. I've never had Peyton take pictures with Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny before so I wasn't sure how he would react to the characters, but he loved them!

Even though he had been curious about those eggs before, when it was 'go time', he still needed Daddy's help to figure out just what you were supposed to do. It was nice though, because they had the hunt sectioned off for different age groups which had their own start times so that there wouldn't be pushing and fighting over the eggs. One cute little boy that was younger than Peyton wanted to put all of his eggs in Peyton's basket. We quickly told him to "...find your basket!" and " Thank you for trying to share!" It was adorable to see so many toddlers each trying to get the hang of things.

After some initial coaching from Dad, Peyton collected a few eggs and figured he was good to go {and it was so cold that we didn't mind being done so we could head back to the car for some heat}.

I just love this picture below- is there nothing better than a kind and patient Dad who will show you the ropes when you don't know what to do? These two boys are attached at the hip when they are home together. It is so sweet and endearing to watch {plus it gives me a break too!}

I think Peyton did good on his first hunt! Of course, all of the candy inside was penny candy and half of it was what I would consider a choking hazard even for adults {those individually wrapped square caramels were among the main culprits} but Peyton had a lot of fun and it wasn't really about getting a candy stash anyway {or at least yet I should say!}

Before we left, we had to get in one more hug with a friend before we could consider it a success.

It was an eggcellent day!
