And the rain ate my shoe!

Last Friday night, Troy called Jeremy to see what he and Aidan were up to. They've just recently bought a house as well and will be moving right around the time we are, so they've been busy painting furniture and formulating color schemes ever since their offer was accepted. Jeremy told Troy that they were going to take a break sprucing things up on Saturday to go and try the Twisted Root Burger Company for dinner in Dallas and invited us to tag along.

Would you believe that I have lived here for over four months now and Saturday was the first time I had ever seen downtown Dallas? I am terrified to try to drive down there by myself since there are so many marble shoots {that's what I call the different ramps that veer off in crazy and spontaneous directions} and TomTom likes to make fun of my incompetence with city driving by telling me at the last minute that I'm not where I should be. Secretly, I think it's aware of just what it's doing and having a good laugh on my part!

So we braved the wet, windy weather and made it downtown in one piece and parked the truck at the meter around the corner. We whipped out our umbrella and made a mad dash for the burger joint and there was already a line out the door! I couldn't believe it when Aidan called Troy to give him a heads up that it was filling up fast so they were going to jump in line to order their food. I mean, it was s•t•o•r•m•i•n•g outside. In fact, on the way over we heard about the air roof for the Dallas Cowboys training field collapsing while they were at practice from all of the crazy wind.

We quickly decided what we wanted {thank goodness for looking at the menu at home before we got there!} and because Aidan and Jeremy had staked out a table, we huddled near the window as the storm raged outside and watched as the line shrank and redoubled inside.

The fun thing about the Twisted Root is that they have you draw a fictitious name up at the counter that they call out when your order is ready. Troy was Wyatt Earp for the evening and Jeremy was Flash Gordon. There was even a shout out for Stacy's Mom!

Waiting for some juicy burgers! If you look at the weather screen on the TV behind us, you can see all of the red blotches indicating the storm moving through!

Shelby wasn't going to give me a smile here- but she really was a happy girl that evening!

That's okay though, because Peyton was too busy stuffing his mouth to smile either!

Wait a minute, that's a kinda-sorta-halfway smile from Shelby! I'll take it! :-)

We all dug into our burgers and had a great time visiting. Then it was time to brave the elements again! The boys ran for the vehicles under our umbrella while Aidan and I kept the kids and ourselves dry under the awning. Jeremy pulled up first and it was Aidan's turn to run out into the rain and the flooded gutters. In the time it took her to fling the door open, throw Shelby in and jump in herself, she was DRENCHED! They pulled out quickly and then Troy came around the corner with the truck.

With my big pregnant belly, I wasn't able to jump across the car seat like Aidan had done {besides, Aidan is an itty bitty little thing compared to me even when I'm NOT pregnant!} so I had to put Peyton in his seat and then try to jump over the moat to get in the front passenger door. Well, the water was too deep so I had to hop in and the water was seriously over halfway up my calves. I had almost made it through the pond when I felt the suction of the rushing water peel my flip flop off of my foot. I looked down and watched as it bobbed on the water so I steadied myself to try to pick it up.

But when you have a giant bowling ball stuffed in your shirt impeding your flexibility and sense of gravity, picking things up {or at least attempting to pick things up} doesn't always work like it should! So I came up empty handed after swiping at apparently nothing. By the time I stood up to get another look at where the darn thing went, it was gone!

"Oh forget it!" I laughed and scrambled for the passenger door. Troy saw my amused face as I jumped in and before he could ask, I blurted out, "I just lost my flip flop!" Troy, wanting to be the knight in shining armor was all set to hop out into the rain himself and find my lost shoe but I just grabbed his arm and told him to forget it. It was already rushing off down the street somewhere with better things to do and places to see! So there I was laughing in the passenger seat, head soaked, jeans sopping wet from the calf down with one shoe on and one shoe M.I.A.

It was a great time! It was actually kind of fun to be out in the rain for that brief moment. It made me feel like a kid again. So that's what we did on our Saturday night! I would say the burgers at the Twisted Root Burger Co. are okay if you were thinking of checking it out. If you happen to be in the neighborhood and you're hungry they are decent but they were a little pricey and the place is pretty busy.

Still, it was just nice to get out- even in the monsoon! :-)

I think Shelby was just so concerned with the weather! Hahaha! Thanks for braving the weather to join us!

Brennan HATES the rain/thunder/lightning, so he would have hated to eat with you that night.
Too bad about your shoe. Hope they weren't your favorite.
I ♥ burgers, though I have not had a great one in a while.
