We ♥ nicknames in this house, so it was no surprise that when Peyton was born he quickly had a handful. I started out calling him 'Bebe' {sounds like Beebee} which later evolved into 'Baybit' {are you with me so far?}.
Peyton cries easily {he has always been this way since he was itty bitty and continues the trend to this day} so sometimes when he was being particularly whiny about something, we would call him 'Babyian' or 'Fabian' {sounds like Fay-bee-in}.
'Fabian' comes from 'Fabio' since he's cheesy and kind of fruity {no offense to any Fabio lovers out there}. So 'Fabian' kind of stuck when Peyton was being his ultra sensitive self. This kid is like night and day with his emotions. He is very passionate and laughs without abandon but also cries with great gusto as well. He's so dramatic :-)
Eventually, at some point Troy and I started giving each other made up Roman-esque nicknames. Peyton's nickname had transitioned from 'Fabian' to 'Fabius Maximus'. Ok, now we're on track- so fast forward about a year and a half to Saturday night.
Troy was flipping through the channels and finally landed himself on the History channel and was watching BC Battles which was a program about ancient strategic wars. Suddenly, he burst into the bedroom where I was web surfing and started laughing hysterically. I know you probably know where this is going, but I'll finish telling it anyway ;-)
He said that there was "...no joke- a Roman General on the show named Fabius Maximus." We both started laughing so hard that we had tears in our eyes. Apparently, there really WAS a 'Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus Cunctator ' who lived from 280 BC to 203 BC and who used the 'Fabian strategy' during war to win battles.
So there you have it. Peyton has a true alter ego- Fabius to the maximus :0)
P.S. One more quick story- last summer we went to get snowballs and were lounging outside on a bench eating our sticky sweet cold concoctions when we overheard this girl talking on her cell phone as she waited in line.
She was telling whoever it was that she and a friend had rode their bikes over to get a snowball but that they were too tired to ride back and was wondering if the person on the other end could give them a ride.
Apparently, the person she was talking to couldn't and proceeded to tell them about someone's house that they could go to until they could get around to giving them a ride. The conversation went a little like this: "Where is it? On ____ st.? I don't know if I know where that is. Oh! Near Fabian's house? Oh- you mean Fabian's Mom's house!"
It took Troy and I all we could do to not laugh out loud! To this day, sometimes Troy jokes and calls me 'Fabian's Mom'.

That's awesome. I guess that nickname's sticking for good now!
Cool story, Lexi!!
And to think, I thought he was just a great little guy and now I find out he is REINCARNATED as a great little guy, that he used to be a great warrior!
Hahaha! I would teach Shelby to say Fabian, but if I do, she'll likely ONLY call Peyton that from now own. She already is calling Jeremy by name rather than Daddy. I think the double name thing confuses her.
I'm sure peyton win HIS battles using his own sort of fabian strategy :)
